Our grandfather, Reverend John McCrary (John Memorial's grandfather) moved to Indiana first and then on to Iowa a few years after leaving North Carolina. He was very politically active. Here is an excerpt:
Judge John McCrary was selected by the voters at the first election held in the County, to occupy a place on the bench as associate judge. He was a man of sterling worth, and long occupied a prominent place in the annals of Armstrong Township
.Armstrong Township, Vanderburgh County, Indiana
History of Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Brant & Fuller. 1889
